چکیده

A logical link composed of multiple physical links is in extensive use in today’s Internet and its use is growing due to good scalability, reliability and cost-effectiveness. When IP packets are distributed over such physical links, load unbalancing and packet reordering may occur. Since packet reordering degrades TCP performance, a good traffic distribution method must reduce the amount of reordering as well as packet loss. Hash-based load balancing is simple and ensures no packet reordering, but load unbalancing may occur. We have studied hash-based load balancing methods and analyzed their performances through simulation. We have created a simulation model with OPNET Modeler to generate massive TCP traffic, and then studied the load balancing performance and TCP throughput. The simulation results show that our proposed method, dynamic hashing with flow volume, has the best load balancing performance and minimum impact on TCP throughput. Fair Virtual Bandwidth Allocation Model in Virtual Data Centers

Network virtualization opens a promising way to support diverse applications over a shared substrate by running multiple virtual networks. Current virtual data centers in cloud computing have flexible mechanisms to partition compute resources but provide little control over how tenants share the network. This paper proposes a utility-maximization model for bandwidth sharing between virtual netw...

Distributed Queueing in Scalable High Performance Routers

This paper presents and evaluates distributed queueing algorithms for regulating the flow of traffic through large, high performance routers. Distributed queueing has a similar objective to crossbar-scheduling mechanisms used in routers with relatively small port counts, and shares some common high level characteristics. However, the need to minimize communication overhead rules out the iterati...

A High-Speed, Self-Configuring Local Area Network Using Point-to-Point Links

Autonet is a self-configuring local area network composed of switches interconnected by 100 Mbit/second, full-duplex, point-to-point links. The switches contain 12 ports that are internally connected by a full crossbar. Switches use cut-through to achieve a packet forwarding latency as low as 2 microseconds per switch. Any switch port can be cabled to any other switch port or to a host network ...

Increasing Interconnection Network Throughput with Virtual Channels

Interconnection networks form the backbone of scalable computer systems, including high-performance computers and datacenters. High-performance networks must provide high throughput and bandwidth while delivering messages with minimal latency. As processors that connect to the network inject more messages, the network load rises and can cause two potential deleterious conditions: network deadlo...
